Plenty of films have taken a stab at bringing Bible stories to life, from “The Ten Commandments” and “Jesus Christ: Superstar” to this year’s “Son of God” and “Noah.” But despite those movies’ different genres and tones, these films all tend to share one similarity: They have white casts, even though the Bible’s characters would have been from parts of Africa or the Middle East. Photographer James C. Lewis of Noire3000 | N3K Photo Studios has decided to rectify by presenting these iconic figures in a new light.
Lewis’ “Icons Of The Bible” photo series depicts some of the most famous characters from the Old and New Testament exclusively as people of color, including Simon Peter, Elijah, King Solomon and the archangel Gabriel. The series, which will be fully released in October, features 70 models who identify as either Asian, Native American, Hispanic, African, Middle Eastern, Black American and West Indian.
"I think it is very important to see one’s self in the Scripture so that it may become real in their eyes," Lewis told The Huffington Post. "The whitewashing of the Bible has always bothered me. However I’m happy to now have the opportunity to give a different point of view."
No matter what….. I’ll never not reblog this. Her face and actions say it all.The glee on that little darling’s face
That’s so cute!!’
If you haven’t been at the HAW’s annual exhibition last weekend, then you missed out! There was so much to see, a lot of inspirational work. It was my first exhibition in Hamburg, so I had no idea what to expect. I wish there had been more space for all the pictures, the walls were densely packed and sadly some art was pretty high up and hard to see.
Next year I definitely will make sure to spend more time there, and to offer some postcards and posters too.
It started out quite stressful for Alex and me. We arrived there a bit before the opening of the exhibition to print a little guide for our game. But the uni’s printers did not work. So we went upstairs to put our nametags on our drawings. There we learned that our game, which was to be on display in another room, did not work and nobody had been able to reach us. So we went downstairs and at first did not find the computers, because they were moved to another room. In the end we had to drive back home, export the game again (complicated story, the desktop version for Windows had a bug that made it crash, and we could not test the Mac version), and we also brought Alex’s laptop along to be sure. So 2 hours after the exhibition started we had our game running, and luckily it did not crash. I was actually surprised how many people took the time to play the games. The room was very packed in the evening, and the exhibition closed almost 2 hours after the official end of the first day. So after all it turned out to be a quite successful exhibition for us. People seemed to like our game, even someone from Daedalic complimented us on it. :-)
In the first few photos you can seen the room, how the computers were set up. Three games per computer were on display. Our game is the pixely space game, “Signalis”. We will put it online soon so you can play it too!
Our class’ games were:
- “Choose your fate, Octavian” by Eva Hambach
- “Kill your darling” (or “Kill your husband”) by Jan Soeken
- “Gone” by Melody Schroeder, Annika Frerichs and Lukas Klimowicz
- “Goku” (looks like Japanese woodcuts) by Janis Vernier
- “Rosenkavalier - The Game” by Friederike Hantel
- “Joey’s Journey” (the cockroach game) by Norman Heck, Patricia Hessler and Malia König
- “Voodoo” (the only 3d game) by Kai Wittig.
Then there are some photos with lots of drawings and sketches of heads and people. That’s from the drawing course we attended, the topic was emotions, mimics, gestures. Our sketchbooks were there too.
After that I’d like to show you my friends’ work.
The yellow narrow series of pictures about the band America is by Isen, her art was exhibited in the same room as our game so we got to hang out for a bit which was very nice! She has also made the yellow booklet on the table and the yellow/blue/red art on the wall above that.
Then there’s Sanna's Bachelors project, an illustrated children's book with story and art by her. The book is huge and the paintings are incredibly detailed.
And last but not least you can see what Ben is working on for his Masters project (the gorillas), and other art of his.
I greatly enjoyed talking to Ben and Isen, Michael our games tutor, meeting new people and great artists (for example Frederik Jurk, the dinosaur man), and getting to know Tom. I can’t wait for next year and also getting to know more people in the coming semesters. :-)

I LOVE YOU

Filed under totally genius: a tall bookcase with a built-in ladder by SaidtheKing.
This man is a rapist. His name is Steven James and he is not 30 years old. He is 43 years old, a travel nurse, and a pedophile. Do. Not. Trust. Him.
This looks like OKC so if you use it and love around Raleigh, stay safe!!
(This is actually the tinder application which is a lot easier to hide on than OKC)-Steven James is active within the BDSM community and the adult entertainment industry. He targets young, white, single mothers. (my family were not his first victims) As a travel nurse he bounces from hospital to hospital in the tri-state area and is known to frequent Raleigh, Durham, Winston-Salem, Statesville, and Kernersville.
He raped me for nine months from the day I turned twelve until my family moved out of his condo in winston salem. When I returned to Chapel Hill he continued to make trips to visit my family and abused me while he was here. In March of 2006 I disclosed about my abuse to my art teacher who contacted department of social services and the police. when Winston Salem authorities were made aware of the case they sent social workers to his home to ask him about the allegations. To avoid losing his nursing privileges he fled to Ohio for a few years until things died down.
He is extremely dangerous, armed, and has extensive knowledge of technology (including how to find me should he see this). I am prepared for the backlash associated with this post and its reblogs. I am prepared to deal with the possible shut down of my blog for this post. I am prepared for him to find me. He has taken drastic steps to change his appearance, including what looks like botox and collagen injections. I am wholly positive that I am not mistaken. You do not forget the face of the person who killed what was inside you and you never will.
I know that I will never get justice for what he has done and the subsequent events that followed my disclosure, but I hope that with this post he wont be able to ever hurt someone else.Thank you for all of the support i have received. Thank you for your words, your efforts, your reblogs, your thirst for justice.
Be safe, be aware, be critical.
Signal boost the hell out of this. This man is very dangerous. You could save a life.
An awing fuck-ton of big cat references.
And here’s a link to a spectacular image that helps distinguish types of big cats. It’s insanely helpful, and you’d be doing yourself a majour disservice if you don’t use it:
Please note that in the first cheetah GIF, the head has been insolated. When running, the head will bob up and down slightly. Not a lot, but just know how the head attaches to the neck and how that moves when the body is oscillating up and down when they run, like in the second GIF.
